1. Superlative adjectives (short adjectives)

So sánh nhất của tính từ được sử dụng trong câu khi đưa ra phép so sánh từ 3 đối tượng trở lên.

Form (Cấu trúc)

Short adjectives

S + be + the + adj-est (+ N + C).

She is the best student in my class.

Long adjectives

S + be + the most + adj (+ N + C).

He is the most careful in my family.

How to form superlative adjectives (Cách biến đổi tính từ so sánh nhất)

1. Tính từ ngắn (1 âm tiết)

Kết thúc bằng e → thêm -st
Kết thúc bằng 1 nguyên âm (u, e, o, a, i) và 1 phụ âm (trừ h, w, x, y, z) → nhân đôi phụ âm cuối, rồi thêm -est.
Còn lại → thêm -est.

wide → widest
hot → hottest
cold → coldest

2. Tính từ 2 âm tiết kết thúc bằng -y

Đổi -y thành -i, rồi thêm -est.

happy → happiest

3. Tính từ 2 âm tiết kết thúc bằng -er, -ow, -et

Thêm -est.

narrow → narrowest

4. Tính từ dài từ 2 âm tiết trở lên

Dùng the most + adjective.

complicated → the most complicated
